family-picKasson Jewelers was established in 1949 by Philip Kasson, a watchmaker, in downtown Bridgeport CT.  In 1960 he moved the business to the Black Rock section of Bridgeport CT, where the CT jewelry store was located until 1995.  After Philip’s untimely death in 1963, Miriam, his widow, stepped in and ran Kasson Jewelers, and was actively involved with the jewelry business until 2008.

Alan, Miriam’s son, joined the jewelry store in 1976 after completing his BFA in graphic design from Ohio University.  Alan apprenticed in the Bridgeport CT area to refine his jewelry repair techniques, for which he had a natural ability. He furthered his education by taking several unique jewelry design, fabrication and counter sketching classes. Alan began taking gem classes through the Gemological Institute of America, where he achieved a degree as a Graduate Gemologist. In 1993, Alan received the prestigious title of Certified Gemologist Appraiser by the American Gem Society… approximately 400 jewelers have earned this title in North America.  Alan is required to take exams annually by the American Gem Society to maintain his title. Susan Rona Kasson joined her husband Alan in the CT jewelry store as well.  Susan offered a fashionable approach to purchasing unique jewelry, with her eye always on styles and trends.  Susan loved selling jewelry and interacting with the customers.  To become more professional in jewelry knowledge, Susan became a Certified Sales Associate through the American Gem Society, where she must also take an annual exam to maintain her title. The CT jewelry store continued to grow as a result of the personal and professional service that was given to each and every customer.

Michael Kasson joined the jewelry store in 2010, the third generation, after receiving his BFA in metalsmithing and jewelry design from Syracuse University. While in college, Michael Kasson apprenticed for two summers under Michael Bondanza, an award winning jewelry designer, where he acquired valuable training.  After graduation, Michael Kasson went to San Francisco and attended the Revere Academy, a school that teaches every aspects of jewelry design.  Michael learned different ways to set stone and received 5 certificates upon completion.
